Today, I want to share with you one of my digital art journaling pages. I really like the way it turned out, so I want to tell you just a bit about the page and some of my choices. The page I want to share with you is called Life’s Not Always Beautiful.
I used two different products in creating this page. Blue Period Mini and Blended Ink Papers V2 from Crafty Button Designs.
Normally, I don’t post images of the products I work with during layout shares. In this case, I wanted you to be able to see the contrast in colors of the two products used. The difference in colors plays an important part in my choices.
I started out with the Blue Period Mini Kit. The color choices in Blue Period Mini make it obvious for a digi art journaling page about hard times. But I didn’t want to include only dark colors. The reason being is that I don’t think life is just about the hard times even when life seems darkest. I really don’t. There is always something to make us smile, even if it’s only for a few minutes. A kiss from a puppy. A hug from a child. A funny joke where you can’t help buy laugh. There are times when those happy moments may seem short lived. We may even have to work hard to hold on to those moments for more than the twinkling of an eye. But those moments are there. That’s why I had to include some happier colors on my page. That’s when I turned to Blended Ink Papers V2.
To create the background, I combined five different papers. Three papers are from the Blue Period Mini and two are from Blended Ink Papers V2. The bottom paper is from Blue Period Mini an is in normal mode. The paper immediately above the background is also from Blue Period Mini with a blend mode of Overlays. The next paper I aded is again from Blue Period Mini, this time with a Darker Color Blend Mode.
The next two papers are from Blended Ink Papers V2 and this is how I added the happier colors to my page. First, I added the Pink and Purple paper shown in the upper right hand corner of the paper image and I used the Lighter Color blend mode. I then added the paper with all the orange and used the same blend mode of Lighter color. Combining these five papers allowed me to use color to represent both the good times and bad times that are always part of our lives.
Once I created the background, I added some additional elements from Blue Period Mini to complete the page. My favorite is the art doll. The sad look on the dolls face just really speaks to me. Plus I like that while the doll is definitely an expression of sadness, it’s not too dark. As I’ve mentioned that’s a combination that I really believe in.
Thank you for stopping by today. Until next time, don’t forget to document your memories.
