5thAveHero_5x5_78_300dpi_111105It’s that time again.  Time for another Apple event.  Luckily for me, this time around they will be streaming it to AppleTVs, so I will be able to watch it live.  Don’t know yet if I’ll watch just Apple’s live stream or if I will turn in to TWiT to watch their live coverage.  (I’m leaning toward just the live event, but we’ll see.)  Either way, at 1 p.m Eastern time, you know what I’ll be doing.

As with all Apple events, I have some ideas on what I’d like to see with today’s event.  They may or may not happen.  (Or in the case of one dream, definitely not happen.)  But I thought I’d share my thoughts with you before the big event.

OS X Mavericks

Mavericks-OSX_PRINTYes, I am hoping we will finally see the Mavericks update to the OS X software for Macs.  This was announced back in June at WWDC, just as they did with Mountain Lion last year.  However, last year I got my Mountain Lion update in July.  This year, it’s October and still no Mavericks update.  I am especially looking forward to getting the tabs in Finder.  It will make moving files around so much easier (and I move files around a lot.)  So hopefully today is the day I finally get my update.

iPad 5

iPad_wRet_Pinch_Wht_Photo-PRINTHonestly, I don’t care if they change the appearance.  I am perfectly happy with the way my iPad 3 looks.  I am not expecting any software updates as we just got iOS 7 (although I am not happy with how it performs on my iPad).  What I am hoping for is that the 32GB model becomes the base model and it sells for $499.  The 16 GB version is just too small.  When I got my iPad, I never expected that as I’d never run into problems with my 16 GB phones.  But I ran into storage issues on the iPad within six months.  I now recommend anyone getting a tablet spring for the 32 GB version.

AppleTV

AppleTV_Main Menu_Movies_US ONLY_PRINTFor those of you who are not familiar with the AppleTV, it is a device similar to a Roku box that runs a modified version of iOS.  I am hoping this is the day that iOS apps become available on the AppleTV.  What a killer device the AppleTV would become if you could play iOS games on your TV.  If this becomes a reality, I hope they also introduce a game controller to make playing games even easier.  I’d also love to see all the different TV viewing apps become available.  Wouldn’t help me much, as most of them require a cable subscription and I cut the chord some time back.  But it would still be an awesome addition to the AppleTV.

Oh, I do have one pipe dream for the Apple TV.  I’d love an all you can stream service for iTunes movies and TV shows.  You pay a monthly fee and iTunes becomes an all you can eat buffet of movies and television.  I know this is not coming.  As far as I know, Apple hasn’t had any more luck negotiating deals with the studios than anyone else.  But a girl has to have her dreams.

Mac Pro

MacPro_PFH_PRINTThe Mac Pro hasn’t had a major refresh in years.  A new Mac Pro was announced in June just as with OS X Mavericks.  Still no Mac Pro available for purchase.  I am hoping to see this released today.  The Mac Pro release interests me for two reasons  One, I hope to go down to the Apple store and check it out.  Two, I am interested to see how it is going to be received by professionals.  In June, the round “trash can” look was pretty controversial (although I happened to like it).  Plus it will be much less upgradeable than previous Mac Pros.  I am curious to see how this affects adoption once the new Mac Pro is actually available for purchase.

Macbook Pro and Macbook Pro with Retina

13MBP_PFOT_iPhoto_PRINTIn June, the Macbook Airs received a refresh and the new Airs now run the latest Intel Haswell processors.  The same cannot be said for the Macbook Pro or the Macbook Pro with Retina.  I am hoping both of these Macs receive updates to the latest Haswell processors.  I think it would be a great addition to both of these Macbooks.  Other than this, I don’t really feel a lot of changes are needed.  These are both outstanding machines.

I also have one thing I do not want to see.  I do not want to see the Macbook Pro disappear and leave only the Macbook Pro with Retina to fill this space.  The Retina machines are still quite a  bit more expensive than the regular Macbook Pros.  These are already expensive machines, although well worth the price, and I would hate to see the less expensive model be phased out.  If they have this idea on the brain, hopefully they will at least leave behind the 13″ Macbook Pro for those of us can’t quite afford the Retina version.

That’s what I am hoping to see today with the Apple event.  What would you like to see?  Do you even care than an Apple event is being held today?  Leave me a comment and let me know what you are thinking about today’s event.
