One of my all-time favorite quotes is from Victor Hugo in the book Les Miserables. It has been a favorite quote of mine for over 20 years.
I think I love this quote so much because it speaks of the greatest gift that we as humans have ever received and the greatest gift we can ever give, love.
If you are, like myself, a Christian then Love is the greatest commandment we have been given. When a Pharisee asked Christ what was the greatest commandment in the law, he responded that the first was to love God and the second was to love our neighbor. All other laws hung on these two. (Matthew 22:34-40)
Even if you do not consider yourself a Christian, is there anything better we can do than to love one another? How much better off would we all be, if we made it our focus to love one another? No, all of our disagreements would not disappear. We all have different beliefs. But we could approach these differences with love and kindness. How different would our discussions be under those circumstances?
We are at the start of a new week. I want to encourage us all, that includes myself, to work on showing more love to one another. Maybe it could be the beginning of something great.
I hope everyone has a wonderful week ahead. Whatever you do this week, don’t forget to document your memories.
